Return to the Depths

He is back. Khaki Schwarzenegger is "the exterminator" in The Greatest Action Story Ever Told. Or so I thought while revisiting this quest on SAM/DNC. Even after loading Ariane with fifty or so Hi-Potions and pumping out "Curing Waltz" repeatedly, our party only managed to bring the DRK NM to about 40% HP. Twilotak's repeated use of "Blood Weapon" devastated Ariane with his 200 damage hits.

I suppose I was feeling rather emotional at this point because I was already having a bad week, and I thought our setup was overkill to begin with. However, I managed to think of a new strategy, and the group agreed to help me again. Essentially, Kear (DRG/WAR), Ari (NIN/WAR), Sani (BRD/WHM), and I (NIN/DNC) loaded up on Hi-Potions, Ethers, and food and attempted to "Blink" tank this NM to death.

If you are wondering what this quest is about, you (and your group) are in Movalpolos to diffuse a Moblin invasion, but you blow your disguise and offend Twilotak (the DRK NM) after attempting to speak Moblin.

The BC arena is setup similar to the picture above. Twilotak will stand in the center and use "Draw In" on whoever aggravates him first (this also makes kiting useless). Three Moblin Wisewomen (RDM) and Clergymen (WHM) stand in a line behind Twilotak and support him with magic. These helpers will not attack unless attacked, but with the WHMs healing Twilotak and the RDMs debuffing your party, you will have to take care of them somehow. For this attempt, I decided that the WHMs had to be eliminated first while I held the DRK, alone, at bay. Once the WHMs were dead, the plan was for everyone to jump the DRK and flay his sorry hide.

Masani's job was to sing "Battlefield Elegy" ("Slow") on the DRK and "Mambo" (+Evasion) on me to tank this NM safely. Unfortunately, I still took something like 150-200 damage per hit, and with 700 HP, "Goblin Rush" could one-shot me if I was not careful. We lost the fight again because I failed to cast my NIN enfeebles in time, but since we did much better this time around, we all knew there was hope in an encore.

Our second run was near flawless. Ariane ended up stealing hate once the Moblin support was dead, but she managed to stay alive with the Hi-Potions I gave her. We even broke the record at eight and a half minutes; not bad for four people, indeed!

The rest of my pictures involve more spoilers from the ending CS, and they are mostly meant for my party members who were up very late that night. Above, Trikotrak mutters some Moblin gibberish, and like some Moblins, he speaks without vowels.

Twikotrak (two pictures above): You look familiar. Could this guy be the servant of Promathia?
Twikotrak (above): Then kill everyone within. Simple.

Twikotrak (above): We should fix relations with Goblins. Make friends.

A touching ending to one of the most annoying quests in FFXI. If you look carefully, Magriffon (the eccentric RDM from Kazham) shows up and tricks the Moblins into not attacking Bastok. That is right. He can stop wars, but he still charges me 10,000 gil for a disguise to infiltrate Movalpolos? That guy sure has class.

Reward: 3000 gil and...

The Prince and the Hopper

Since I had over fifty Hi-Potions from the previous quest, I decided to attempt this quest because I heard it was "hard." Without spoiling too much, you are asked to find some Tarutaru's girlfriend who has, unfortunately, been turned into a frog. To rescue her, one must dispatch the NM above, so I sent Snippy to attack him while I dealt with his four helpers. The smaller frogs proved to be very weak and possess horrible Accuracy and Attack in general.

After taking down three of the helpers, I noticed that I could not kill the fourth (perhaps it was the girl I was looking for), so I decided to bash the main NM instead. In total, I used about eight Hi-Potions and probably could have won without if I risked fighting at low HP. Now what am I suppose to do with the remaining forty potions?
