Glossary:
Job Abilities
Charm - attempts to take control of a monster
Counterstance - increases your chances at nullifying and then countering an enemy's attack
Eagle Eye Shot - a powerful ranged attack
Familiar - adds 30 minutes to your charm duration (does not apply to jug pets) and increases your pet's HP by 10 percent
Leave - releases a charmed pet
Snarl - transfers most of your enmity to a jug pet
Seigan - creates 1+ shadow images and increases your Parrying and "Counter" rate when used with "Third Eye"
Spirit Surge - dismisses your pet Wyvern and adds significant melee bonuses to yourself
Tame - can calm an angry monster and increases "Charm" success rate
Third Eye - creates a single shadow image unless used in conjunction with "Seigan"
Weapon Skills
Rampage - a five-hit, Axe WS with chances to land critical hits
Spiral Hell - a single-hit, Scythe WS that hits very hard at 300 TP
Magic
Bio - a detrimental effect that lowers a target's attack points and HP over time
Dia - a detrimental effect that lowers a target's defense points and HP over time
Raise - allows the user to revive an incapacitated player back to life
Stun - halts the target from moving
Miscellaneous
2hr - a job's special ability; reusable every two hours
/"something" - a reference to perform "something"
/"FFXI job" - denotes a certain sub-job
??? - targets in FFXI that perform miscellaneous tasks when clicked
agro - to aggravate an enemy
alliance - a union of parties; requires at least 2 parties
Assault - a battlefield that requires a PT to perform critical tasks
AF - a five-piece armor set that is iconic of the FF series
AFv2 - another five-piece armor set, similar to AF, but for higher levels
BC - Burning Circles; enclosed battlefields used to fight NMs
Bastok - the industrialized nation founded by the Humes and Galkas
cap - refers to some sort of upper limit or restriction
coffer - treasure boxes that can contain useful items
Courier Carrie - a variant of Snippy
Critical Hit - an attack that deals bonus damage
enmity - an attribute that determines that player a foe will strike at next
EX - items that cannot be traded or sold (usually)
farming - the act of "harvesting" useful items
gil - the currency of FF games
grinding - some slow and repetitive process
HP - the "life" value of a target
HNM - monsters that grant a title when defeated; generally very powerful
jug pet - a summoned pet
limit points - used to define merit points; 10,000 limit points equal one merit point
link - when a foe(s) detects a similar foe in trouble and join(s) the fray
linkshell - a group of players who have banded together for a common purpose
lotting - using the roll of a die to determine the distribution of items
MP - magic/mana points; the cost of using spells in FFXI
merit points - used to purchase additional special abilities or job traits at lvl 75+
newbie - a new user
own - the act of dominating and/or humiliating an entity
parry - to guard against a physical strike with your weapon
party - a group of 2 to 6 players
patch - an update file used to fix bugs (errors in programming) and introduce new game content
pull - the act of luring a monster
rare - one per player
rawr - internet slang for "roar"
San'd'Oria - the forest nation; home of the Elvaan
Salvage - a battlefield that requires players to perform difficult tasks
sea - the underwater region of Al'Taieu and its surrounding areas
shadows - shadow images that absorb physical attacks
Sky - the region known as Tu'Lia, a floating island
Sky god(s) - high-tier NM(s) in Sky
Snippy - a Crab creature (see banner, left)
tank - a character devoted to protecting his/her comrades from harm
tactical points - used to perform Weapon Skills
weapon skill - allows a player to perform special attacks; requires at least 100 TP
Windurst - the nation of magic; home of the Tarutaru and Mithra
zerg - to destroy an enemy quickly via special abilities
zone - to enter or exit an area; it can also refer to the area itself

Elvaan (EV) - elves with tall, slender bodies and pointed ears
Galka (GK) - burly, hulking humanoids with tails
Hume (HM) - the humans
Mithra (MR) - women with feline features
