Apocalypse Nigh

The following post contains spoilers from the final Zilart/CoP mission.

I have saved the best for last, and today's post details the big showdown between good and evil. But before we get to the fight itself, we must, like so many missions before, revisit areas of otherwise no interest to investigate strange readings in the Crystal Line.

As such, you are asked to scale the main three Promyvion spires and examine the Memory Flux located at the top of each spire. Although I had previously said I would tackle this task solo with BLU, I have decided to team up instead because I really wanted to finish this quest (I will still climb the Promyvion spires again someday, solo, to get my Promyvion maps).

The climb itself was ridiculously easy with three Great Axe WARs, a MNK, and two support mages; we could destroy Memory Receptacles in less than five minutes each. Unfortunately for us, there were not any special CSs at the top of each spire, just some key items followed by trips back to Jeuno.

So after surrendering the key items and waiting until JP midnight to flag this quest, my PT was reunited alongside the heroes of CoP and Zilart, and accordingly, the respective villains also returned to torment us once again. But what is this? Lion is still alive, and she used Prishe's magicite (this was thrown into Promathia's face at the end of CoP) to keep herself alive from the not quite dead antagonists? Wow! What a surprise indeed, but Lion soon plummets upon her entry, exhausted, into the arms of Selh'teus, who had quickly dived to catch her. That lucky kid.

So after saving the "Aeris of FFXI," we were more or less back to stopping the clowns of the past from destroying the world (or something along those lines). While my CoP and Zilart companions charged at the Shadow Lord and Nag'molada (why does it take a dozen people to handle those two?), my party steeled itself to brave both Zilart princes. Yeah, those NPCs are real useful...

The fight itself was relatively simple however. Our battle setup consisted of two MNKs, a DRK, a PLD, a BLM (me), and a RDM. We told the PLD to kite the duke around while our other melee jobs pummeled his (older) brother to death. This worked quite well until Kam'lanaut decided to use "Great Wheel" on us, causing enmity to reset for the entire party; I even died shortly after while trying to heal myself. Luckily for me, the melee team had just finished off Eald'narche, and with their 2hrs and "Chainspell," we scythed through his younger brother as well. Revenge can be so bittersweet.

After clearing the fight, I got to relax and bear witness to a rather bland ending for my efforts. Esha'ntarl uses the "Eye of Altana" to transform the defeated bosses back into magicite, and the magicite then shatters into fragments, never to be seen again (I hope). I suppose the biggest question that comes to mind is when is it my turn to hold Lion?!

Even more disappointing is how Lion's status remains unknown after the fight; I was expecting a big reward here. Luckily, Gilgamesh decided to compensate me with one of four special earrings; the other three went to the Zilart and CoP NPCs (even though they did not deserve them). In the end, I decided to choose the Magnetic Earring because my BLM was in need of upgrades.

Notes:
a) Aeris is a fictional female protagonist, from FFVII, whose death has been described as "someone who did not deserve her fate being the sweet, innocent, and lovable figure she is portrayed as." Her death is often considered heroic (similar to Lion's supposed death at the end of ZM17) and ultimately led many players to write to SE in hopes of a change of fate.
