It has been a while since I have had the pleasure to meripo, but today, a LS member noticed that I was seeking on BLM and decided to invite me to his PT. Initially, I thought I would be able to re-level after dropping to lvl 74 just the day before, but I soon discovered that the party was headed to the Greater Colibri camp. Given that BLMs are terrible against monsters that reflect magic, I proposed going BST instead, and the PT had no objections.
Unfortunately, the PT got delayed for quite some time. It turns out that two of my LS members refused to come over until they had finished leveling with their other jobs, so I was pretty angry at them as a result. After finally gathering in the Bhaflau Thickets, we stumbled onto three other meripo PTs,
so we ended up battling the Mamool Ja on the upper ledge instead.
So just how much of a difference did my new Byakko's Haidate make? The short answer is "not much." Although the haidate did decrease my Delay and increase my WS damage, there is not an astounding difference from just equipping the pair of shorts. As for my Kirin's Osode, it seems that it is true what they say: do not melee in it. Although using the osode might have improved my Critical Hit Rate slightly, my Accuracy was much better using my Hauberk, so I decided to switch back to the latter midway through the parse.
In terms of comparing myself to other DD jobs, I think I still need more data in general. From what I have gathered, I will need the few pieces that allow a BST/NIN to "Double Attack" before I can compete against the heavy DDs.
EDIT: I used Bream Sushi instead of Sole Sushi.

By using Bream Sushi you already let yourself down a little on the damage you could have pushed out. And you also did 34.6% (Got to combine with CC) of the damage done, wich is a measly 4% behind the Samurai. And if you used Kirin's Osode a few fights, that already means you "nerfed" your potential damage a little for periods of time. Wearing the correct gear for the full fight will grant you better resultes next time. I would maybe try using a different HQ pet as well, maybe LifedrinkerLars?
Yes, yes, I know... I was trying to be conservative with my meleeing expenses while testing the effectiveness of my Osode/Haidate at the same time. Now granted 5 STR may push my normal melee ranges up and LL could probably make an additional 4% (he did about that much more than CC at Greater Colibris; I'm still annoyed at how crucial our gear is to our performance in a normal PT compared to other DD jobs.
In all fairness to the other DD jobs, I would say they rely alot on their gear as well. In most my recent merit PT burns when I convince them I can actually perform well, I end up on parses as the top damage thanks to my pet. Now, I won't say I have extremely good gear, but I do have a fair share of decent parts. I tend to use Curry or meat, as I have a big accuracy build and most merit mobs are VT at any rate. I either use CC or I use LL, but most of the time I tend to pick LL as he seems to give that little extra damage. I shoot out my Rampages at 100% TP and immediately as Sic is available and the pet has TP I use it. In the end I manage to finish with 4-7% damage done over the other party members, if it was a long 200+ chain PT. I am sure next merit party you get, you will and can perform better, since this time you tested things. I think you did well, considering you tested various factors.
PS: Another factor for us compared to alot of the other jobs, is that we have no natural attack boost buff. We can't use Berserk if we are /NIN, nor can we use Saigan and so on forth unless we use Scythe, and that's asking to do less damage anyways. This do mean we require better equip. But I can understand SE's choice for not giving us a natural self-boost. We have our pets, and their damage is often neglected.
I just hope SE will add even more pets in WotG, and that at least one of them.. turns out to be a very good DD. Wouldn't it be cool if they added a function to let a pet buff us as well?
